Rab is the name of the island as well as of the ancient town after which the island was named. Rab experienced its greatest development during the regin of romans, when the emperor oktavian Augustus, in the ist century befor Christ, gave the status of municipium. His successors gave the town the honourable name „FELIX“. Today's appearance, numerus monumentus and the romains of strong fortresses are witnesses to the long and interesting history of the town. In the town there are four bell-towers, monuments palaces of the rich Rab families. One of the most beatiful parks in the Mediterranean, „Komrcar“ is placed right behind the old town. Since Rab is a tipical Mediterranean town rich ih historical monuments, it attracted the first tourist already towards the end of the 19th century, which also signifies the begining of tourisam on the Rab.
